La Follette of Wisconsin, in the United States Senate, on account of his minority stand on certain issues of the present war...
...It is not amiss, in the transmission of these resolutions, to say, that when the resolutions came before our body for action a number of our members recited in detail the many times that you have rendered invaluable assistance towards the betterment of the working conditions of the postal employees as well as other wage earners and particularly was mention made of the fact, that it was your effort and energy and brilliant leadership that lead to the enactment of the law that bears your name, which repealed the ROOSEVELT "GAG RULE" that had for years deprived 400,000 civil servants of the Government of their Constitutional Right of Free Speech and even the right to petition Congress for a redress of grievances...

...and WHEREAS, The long years of experience and deep friendship between Senator La Follette and organized labor, in whose cause no truer friend has labored, directs the California State Federation of Labor in its Eighteenth Annual Convention, in regular session assembled in tiie City of Sacramento, in speaking a message of calmness and tolerance to all citizens of our land during this great war crisis...
...Oil ABRIDGING TIIE FREEDOM OF SPEECH OR THE PRESS, OR Till: RIGHT OF TIIE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances," and WHEREAS, He has fought fearlessly for placing the financial burden of the War where it properly belongs, on those who profit by It and those who are able to carry it, in line with the declared policy of President Wilson at the beginning of the war, thus incurring the enmity of the rich and powerful, the dollar patriots and their hirelings, the subsidised press, the law and the pulpit, who are piling up wealth and enslaving the musses while the common people aro sacrificing their all for their country, lighting for Democracy, and WHEREAS, These enemies of Senator La Follette are resorting to unscrupulous methods and misrepresentations, through the press and otherwise, therefor be it resolved that: WE, the 7,300 memliers of Local 104, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders and Helpers of America, think it our duty to warn all fair minded people against accepting such misrepresentation as being true, aud declare it to be our opinion, that Senator La Follette is worthy of our unqualified respect and support in his efforts in behalf »f the great majority of the people, and be it further resolved : That copies of this resolution be sent to President Wilson, to Senator La Follette and to the public through the press...
