OUR CHILDREN
Patri, Angelo
Our Children By ANGELO PATRI CHRISTMAS is the children's day of days. As it draws near every pair of eyes grows brighter, every young heart beats higher in the thought of that stocking filled with...
...the holly and the mistletoe, the cookies and the cakes...
...but that inner content, that spiritual assurance that comes of a perfect trust in the goodness of life, faith in its eternal Tightness...
...the grand dinner, the lighted tree, the gaily wrapped presents...
...For once we can lay aside the burden of care, forget the work that waits, the trouble that darkens our usual day...
...The wreaths in the windows, the red bows everywhere...
...Christmas Kept In Trust The little ones need Santa...
...If the thought that there is no peace anywhere on earth enters our minds, we drive it off with the serene knowledge that peace is not the cessation of war...
...They will need that memory on Christmas Day and we will want them to be certain of its being remembered rightly...
...That peace we can always have within us...
...They must have their own Christmas memories set for the years to come when they in their turn will look back toward home with longing and love and fond memory...
...This is the one day of the year when we can without a pang of conscience, play, share our fun, give with open hands, as little children do...
...As it draws near every pair of eyes grows brighter, every young heart beats higher in the thought of that stocking filled with goodies, that tree decked and shining with the color and tinsel of fairyland...
...We dress the Christmas tree as we always have done...
...It is Christmas kept reverently, lovingly, in trust for those who are fighting to save all that this day stands for to the children of the world...
...This is a Christmas to be well marked in the memories of the younger ones, well kept by the elders in remembrance of others past, in faith of those to come...
...That peace is ours on Christmas Day...
...Merry Christmas, everybody...
...Its magic sets the children's thoughts in a world of joy and beauty, a world where wishes come true and good things grow on evergreen trees, a world where Santa is king and no duty calls...
...Faith In Life No matter what else comes, this is the day we keep as the birthday anniversary of peace on earth...
...The boys and girls away from home will want to think of us doing just that...
...We skip nothing...
...They will picture the tree with all its familiar ornaments, picture father on the chair ladder placing the angel on the top, mother busy laying the beribboned packages about its foot...
...It is a day when we are all privileged to be children in heart and spirit...
