Correspondence Spirit of tolerance Harlem, N.Y. To the Editors: The articles by various individuals relating to the topic, "From the Council to the Synod" were very profound and illuminating....

...To the Editors: I have just read your October 18 issue — it has almost been an "ecclesial event" for me...
...All we do is work...
...Those articles run the gamut of laical opinion from A to B. Ye gods and little fishes...
...Their concern seems entirely personal, which, of course, is important but wholly insufficient in today's world...
...We get yanked around, patronized, disdained, demeaned, and still we keep showing up to pray for the world and ourselves, to iron the altar linens, to clean up the used tissues, to visit the sick, to give food for the hungry, and to do anything else that needs doing...
...As imperfect as it was, the Declaration on the Jews in Nostra Aetate was epochmaking...
...For me, the single greatest effect, I think, was the breath of fresh air that swept through the church in the matter of tolerance...
