MINERS COAL

Dresbach, Glenn W.

Miners of Coal By GLENN W. ORESBACH DEEP down in the darkness and the chill of a world in a crumbling cell, The miners of coal bear hearts of love to beat near the mouth of hell; While up where...

...And magnates sell and magnates gain nor dream how many died, Nor hear the cries from the heart alone by the silent sleeper's side...
...But O in the dark when gold is dross and night winds all are wild, Their souls shall quail when they hear the wail from the soul of the miner's chVd...
...While up where the world wide ways are light the ones that love them wait With eyes grown old to the salt of tears, and hearts that beat with Fate, And spirits hide with the devil gas in pits of the ebon halls And throw their lot in the game of chance and grin on the sweating walls...
...AND what do the miners dare to dream...
...And what are the fears they fear At loss for hope in the night of earth from weary year to year As some are lost and some are found all still in their vaults of coal And love that waits has nothing left but sorrow and a soul...
...And magnates come and magnates go and only greed is sure, And hearts grow hard as the gold they love and the toilers must endure...
